Charges reduced for man who disrupted Trump speech in Johnstown

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — The Pittsburgh man subpoenaed and arrested at Donald Trump’s campaign rally in Johnstown pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct Thursday, according to court officials.

Authorities say Stephen Weiss, 36, was arrested Aug. 30 after he allegedly climbed into the media area and tried to shout on stage as the former president spoke at the First Summit Arena.

Officials say Weiss was subdued by several law enforcement personnel and was arrested.

At his hearing in Cambria County Magistrate Court, the resisting arrest charges were dropped and the disorderly conduct charges were upgraded from a felony to a non-traffic offense. He was ordered to pay a fine of $300. Weiss made no comment as he left court.

According to Johnstown police, Weiss later told authorities he was against Trump’s policies and was trying to hang a protest banner near the media stage.

Police said the banner was made from an old sheet and Weiss allegedly faked a foot injury, using a metal cane, to sneak a bottle of super glue into the arena.
