Suspect charged with aggravated assault and kidnapping in Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A suspect was arrested Tuesday after being charged with aggravated assault and kidnapping in Augusta, according to authorities.

On October 14, at 11:34 p.m., the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office said they responded to the 2000 block of Clark Street for a report of a kidnapping and sexual assault that occurred. would be produced there earlier in the day.

Deputies say they learned from the victim that the individual forced her into the residence, tied her up, beat her and sexually assaulted her until she was able to break free and call for help several hours later. late.

The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment, authorities said.

Investigators responded to the scene and contact was made with the subject, Darrell Edwards, 39, of Augusta, who refused to leave the residence, according to deputies.

A search warrant and two arrest warrants for kidnapping and aggravated assault were obtained and on Oct. 15, at 2:50 a.m., Edwards was taken into custody without incident, according to authorities.
