Seizure of prohibited and unauthorized objects at Donnacona Establishment

DONACONA, QC, October 23, 2024 /CNW/ – Activated October 17, 2024Thanks to the vigilance of staff, prohibited and unauthorized items were seized at Donnacona Institution, a maximum security federal institution.

Prohibited and unauthorized items seized included methamphetamine, hashish, shatter (cannabis concentrate), tobacco, cell phones and metal saw blades. The estimated total institutional value of this seizure is $169,820.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) uses a number of tools to prevent drugs from entering its facilities. These tools include ion scanners and drug detection dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates and visitors.

CSC is strengthening measures to prevent the entry of contraband into its facilities to ensure a safe and secure environment for all. CSC also works in partnership with police to take action against those who attempt to bring contraband into correctional facilities.

CSC has also established an information hotline for all federal institutions to receive additional information on security-related activities in CSC institutions. These activities may be related to drug use or trafficking and threaten the safety of visitors, inmates and staff working in CSC institutions.
