ICICI Bank Shares Important Details on How Parcel Fraud Criminals Scare Their Targets

ICICI Bank has issued a warning regarding a growing trend of parcel fraud scams, where criminals employ psychological tactics to scare their victims into revealing sensitive personal and financial information.

What ICICI bank says

In an email sent to customers, ICICI Bank said Parcel/Mail scammers pretend to be from the customs department/police and contact their targets through calls. During the call, the scammers mention that a courier/package has been booked in their target’s name and that the package contains narcotics or illegal substances.
“Scammers use psychological tactics during calls to threaten victims and obtain their personal information such as bank/card details. They make victims believe that they are being digitally arrested and ask them to share their sensitive/personal information. They also ask victims to initiate money transfers into a fake RBI account and provide their Aadhaar numbers and other identification details apart from banking information to steal the money,” the bank said.

Tips to protect yourself from package scams

Along with this, ICICI Bank has also shared some security tips that will help customers stay protected against parcel fraud.

  • Stop: Scammers will offer help or ask you to verify or share confidential/personal/sensitive information. Do not transfer money or share personal information with such people.
  • Think: Ask yourself if it is possible that the message or call is fake.
  • Protect – Act quickly if something goes wrong and protect yourself from scams
  • Report – Please report any incidents of fraud immediately to National cybercrime on cybercrime.gov.in or call helpline number 1930. You can also call ICICI bank helpline number 18002662.
