Edmonton weather for October 15: cool and rainy

Edmonton weather for October 15: cool and rainy

Temperatures are between 15 and 20 today AND there is another hot weekend ahead. But the general trend for the next five to ten days is clearly a move towards “cooler” temperatures.

(This isn’t completely unexpected. I mean…we’re now in the second half of October.)

The first two weeks of October were hot. Today will be the 9th day with warmer than average temperatures this month.

This represents 9 out of 15 during the first half of the month.

The long weekend saw highs of 14 Saturday / 18 Sunday / 16 Monday. The long-term average is 11 degrees.

After today we will see average to slightly cooler than average temperatures for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

THEN… a brief warm-up for Saturday before a series of cooler than average days next week.

A low pressure system will develop in southern Alberta today. We will have very warm air over the South (in the 20s again) and highs in the low to mid teens in central/north-central AB.

Showers will develop on the northern edge of this system this evening. So there is a very good chance of seeing a few showers in the Edmonton area overnight and early Wednesday morning.

Behind this system, some cooler air is drawn in and a broad trough of low pressure moves aloft Wednesday/Thu/Fri.
