Citroën C5 Aircross Max long-term test: the SUV is a little too exposed to the elements

As the C5 Aircross’s name seems to suggest, this is a comfort-focused SUV with a very smooth ride. It’s true that it’s not up to the task when you’re in the mood for a more dynamic ride – push it a little and you can’t help but notice that classic French roll in the corners – but as far as I’m concerned , it’s a price. it’s worth paying.

Not only was the smooth ride a boon on the highway, but those five hours also proved what a pleasant place the C5’s interior is to travel long distances. Luckily, there’s not a lot of easily marked shiny plastic here, and I like the mix of materials and finishes inside. Additionally, there are some nice storage spaces near the gear selector and a large storage box under the armrest big enough to hold a liter bottle.

The steering wheel feels quite big in my hands and gives a good view of the dials – much better than the layout of cars from Citroën’s sister brand Peugeot. And when I’m behind the wheel, that focus on comfort shines through again. The seat bolsters are nice and plush, rather than trying to be too supportive and ending up too firm.

If I have one complaint, it’s that the 12.5-inch screen (like many Citroën screens) is a little slow to respond and looks rather dated. Luckily, using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto solves the problem, but it’s slightly irritating to have to plug in a cable to get everything synced.
