BREAKING: Defendant pleads guilty to manslaughter in Newbridge last year

A 38-year-old man pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of a Slovak national last year.

Damian Szatkowski of Peachville, Kilshane, Dublin 11 appeared at the Central Criminal Court this morning.

He was brought to court for unlawfully killing Marcel Kusenda (47) in Newbridge, Co. Kildare on or around March 8, 2023.

Garret Baker SC, for the Director of Public Prosecutions, said the plea was accepted.

He said the victim’s son lives in Slovakia and would like to make a statement to the court before sentencing.

Judge Paul McDermott adjourned the case until December 9 and ordered a report from the governor of Midlands Prison, where Szatkowski is being held.
