A child was killed in a freak accident at a haunted attraction over the weekend, according to authorities in Tennessee.

THE Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) announced the incident in a statement Saturday. Deputies were called to Haunted Hilltop, a Halloween attraction located in Harrison, Tennessee, around 10:45 p.m. Friday evening.

When authorities arrived, they learned that a boy had been hit by a tractor while playing a prank on the hay drivers.

“Upon arrival, HCSO deputies spoke with a chaperone about a group of juveniles who were playing near a hay tractor course and were behind some bushes trying to scare some hay riders during the “Haunted Hilltop Halloween Event,” HCSO explained.

“Officers were informed that one of the juveniles attempted to jump on the trailer and may have slipped and fallen under the wheels and was found unconscious.”

The Hamilton County medical examiner’s office told local media the boy was 12 years old. In its statement, the sheriff’s office expressed its sympathy to the victim’s family.

“The HCSO family extends its thoughts and sympathies to the family of the deceased juvenile, as well as others who witnessed this tragic event,” the statement said. “We ask the community to also keep this family in their prayers during this difficult time.”

“As this incident involves minors, no further information is available.”

In a Facebook post, the Haunted Hilltop announced it would be closed the next day and asked for prayers from the community.

“Due to the tragic accident that occurred this evening, we will NOT be open tomorrow-Saturday,” the page wrote on Facebook. “OUR Hearts and prayers go to the family affected (sic) by this, Please keep us all in your prayers! »

On Monday evening, Haunted Hilltop told Fox News Digital it was closed at this time.

“We are heartbroken and devastated for this family,” the company said. “We haven’t even thought about (reopening) yet, it was a horrible accident.”
