Telemundo Studios has tapped Monica Albuquerque for her newly created role of senior vice president of content and development.

In her new role, she will oversee content and development strategy across the company’s linear and streaming platforms, aligning with the production, marketing, sales, research and audience analytics teams. NBC Telemundo Enterprises’ platforms include the Telemundo network, the Universo cable network, the Telemundo app, a suite of FAST channels and Peacock, among others.

“I am honored to join the talented team at Telemundo Studios in this exciting new role,” Albuquerque said in a statement. “Telemundo has long been at the forefront of groundbreaking content, pushing boundaries with bold and innovative programming. I look forward to contributing to this legacy, strengthening our connections with existing audiences and encouraging new generations of Telemundo superfans.”

Albuquerque, who has more than three decades of experience in media and entertainment spanning scripted and unscripted content development, casting, talent management and marketing for Spanish-language programs, will report and work in working closely with Telemundo Studios Executive Vice President Javier Pons.

She was previously head of scripted content at Warner Bros. Discovery Latin America, where she led the development of original scripted projects for HBO Max and pay television networks in the region. Prior to that, she led talent and telenovela development for the division and spent 21 years at TV Globo, including seven as the company’s head of artistic development and monitoring.

The Telemundo network reaches 95% of U.S. Hispanic television households in 210 markets through 30 owned and 91 affiliated stations. Telemundo also has an independent station serving Puerto Rico and hosts the FIFA World Cup and the Olympic Games. Telemundo Studios offers more than 600 hours of reality television programming annually, as well as live specials such as the Billboard Latin Music Awards and Miss Universe.

“Monica is an exceptional media executive with a remarkable ability to identify and develop compelling content. His extensive experience in Spanish-language media, combined with his artistic vision and strategic vision, make him the ideal person to elevate Telemundo Studios’ offerings,” added Pons. “She has achieved exceptional results at every stage of her career, and we are excited to have her lead the next phase of our growth, continuing to develop premium programming for Latino audiences in the United States and around the world. “
