Game Freak comments on staff data leaks

Game Freak, the Japanese gaming company best known for developing the Pokémon series, released a statement regarding unauthorized third-party access to its servers in August 2024. It confirmed that there have been leaks of personal information from past and current Game Freak staff members.

The company noted that the leaks contained 2,606 personnel entries. The entries contained the full names of staff members and their email addresses within the company. The leaks included data from former and current full-time and contract workers at Game Freak. However, the company did not confirm whether or not confidential game development material was included in the leaks.

Game Freak is working to rebuild and re-inspect its servers while improving security to prevent another breach from occurring in the future. Additionally, he suggested former workers contact the company through the Google Form link provided in the document.

The server breach and data leaks came at a crucial time for Game Freak, as the company also held an online recruitment drive towards the end of August 2024. One of the new games the company is working on at this time period is Pokémon Legends ZAscheduled for worldwide release on Nintendo Switch in 2025.
