A 26-year-old British man died after falling from a bridge in Spain while climbing it to create content for social media, authorities said Monday.

The unidentified man was with another British man, aged 24, when he plunged to his death on Sunday morning from the cable-stayed bridge at Talavera de la Reina, 110 kilometers southwest of Madrid, indicated the town hall.

“From what we could tell, they came to Talavera to climb the bridge and create content for social media, which led to this disastrous and sad result,” said Macarena Muñoz, Talavera city councilor. for public safety.

Spanish media said it had rained heavily in Talavera before the accident, which may have made the bridge slippery.

With its 152 metal cables and stunning views of the surrounding countryside, the bridge has long attracted daredevils and social media creators, who climb it despite its ban.

“We have repeatedly reiterated that this cannot be done under any circumstances,” Munoz said.
