North Fort Myers man dead after crash on Bayshore Road

A 79-year-old North Fort Myers man died when his SUV collided with a pickup truck, authorities said.

The crash happened around 7 p.m. Saturday along Bayshore Road near Twin Brooks Road in North Fort Myers, according to a Florida Highway Patrol incident report.

Officers said the SUV was heading east on Bayshore Road, turning left onto Twin Brooks Road, while the pickup truck, driven by an 80-year-old man from North Fort Myers, was traveling west on Bayshore Road, on the outside lane, to the east. from Twin Brooks Road.

Authorities said the SUV turned left directly into the path of the approaching pickup truck. The front of the pickup collided with the SUV.

The driver of the SUV died at the scene, while the driver of the pickup truck was seriously injured, police said.

The 79-year-old driver is one of at least 93 deaths resulting from crashes in Lee County this year.
