A central London pub could see its opening hours reduced after a neighbor complained about noise “carrying into his room” at night.

Westminster Council’s licensing committee is considering forcing The Globe, opposite Baker Street station, to close an hour early after a neighbor lodged a complaint with the town hall.

According to official documents, the neighbor said the “murmurs” outside the pub kept him up at night after the pub closed at midnight.

The resident wrote: “These customers continue to socialize in the forecourt, the constant murmuring and occasional bursts of laughter spilling into my room at the exact moment I am trying to fall asleep.

“The consequence is that I am constantly woken up by Globe customers.

“As a result, my adrenaline surges and I’m often unable to fall asleep for about two hours. It then takes me days to recover.

The neighbor added that customers can take up to 45 minutes after closing to leave the area and that for six nights between March 15 and 27, there were several “noise incidents.”

The resident included a series of WhatsApp messages with the Globe manager as proof.

In a text sent at 12:01 a.m. on March 27, they wrote: “We need to find a solution here. It’s not good. They are now shouting happy birthday.

To which the manager replied: “We move them as best we can and we told them to be quiet. »

In a subsequent exchange, on April 6 at 11:54 p.m., the resident complained that the doormen do not direct customers away or ask them to “respect the residents.”

The manager replied: “It’s not even 12 o’clock, it’s getting excessive now, we’re moving them, they’re not making any noise either.”

The review, which Westminster Council said “was undertaken for reasons of preventing public nuisance”, could force the Greene King pub to close its doors an hour early.

The same neighbor filed a complaint in 2022, citing excessive “ping” of beer kegs as they were transported into the premises.

This led to a condition being added to the bar’s license, meaning it cannot accept deliveries between 11pm and 7am.
