2 arrested in shooting that shut down southbound I-25 for hours

Two men were arrested this week on suspicion of attempted murder after Denver police closed southbound Interstate 25 on Monday to investigate a shooting Friday.

Burr Charlesworth, 42, and Luis Mendoza, 35, were both arrested in connection with an investigation into attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault after allegedly shooting two men Friday on the I -25 southbound, according to a news release from the Denver Police Department.

Around 3:12 a.m. Friday, Denver officers responded to reports of a shooting on southbound I-25 near Colorado Boulevard, police said in the release.

Two men traveling together on the highway were shot in their car and arrested on the south shoulder of I-25 near Belleview Avenue, police said. Paramedics transported both men to hospital, but their lives are not in danger.

Denver police closed the highway for several hours Monday to investigate the shooting and are working to identify more suspects, according to the release.
