Woman charged with attempted murder after man shot in Wonder Lake

WONDER LAKE, Ill. – A man was seriously injured and a woman was charged after a shooting Thursday morning in the unincorporated town of Wonder Lake.

Authorities said shortly after 11 a.m., McHenry County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 8900 block of East Tryon Grove Road to investigate reports of two people who may have been shot. When officers arrived, they found a man with a life-threatening gunshot wound and a woman, identified as Anna Marsek, 45, whose injuries were not life-threatening.

The man was flown to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford in critical condition, while Marsek was flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, according to investigators.

During their investigation, authorities determined that Marsek was responsible for the shooting and charged her with the following charges:

• One count of attempted murder

• One count of aggravated battery with a firearm

• One count of aggravated domestic battery

• Two counts of obstructing justice

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation is still ongoing.
