Will Brandon Aubrey miss the Cowboys vs. Vikings game due to jury duty?

Will Brandon Aubrey miss the Cowboys vs. Vikings game due to jury duty?

The Dallas Cowboys are in crisis. They are 3-3 to start the season and their last loss was one of the worst in team history. This week they face a San Francisco 49ers team that has beaten them in their last three meetings. The number of injuries they suffered on defense was discouraging and only added to their problems. But one player has been a light in their otherwise bleak outlook.

That player is kicker Brandon Aubrey. Yes, really. That’s how good he is (and how bad everything else is right now). So when he appeared on the practice report as a non-participant on Wednesday, there was some worry.

Why Brandon Aubrey missed practice – will he miss Sunday’s game?

It turns out that Aubrey was selected to be part of the jury in connection with a felony assault case (defendant is charged with second-degree strangulation) in Tarrant County. The Cowboys tried to pull him out, but Aubrey insisted on attending Wednesday.

While there is no clear timetable on how long the case will last, Aubrey is expected to appear in court again today (Thursday) and Friday. The good news is that jurors will be released during nights and weekends even while the case is pending, leaving no risk that Aubrey will miss Sunday’s game against the 49ers. The other good news is that Judge is expected to work with Aubrey around his football schedule.

This is a huge relief for Dallas, as Aubrey is indeed one of the only Cowboys players not currently underperforming. In fact, he is not only their best player right now, but also one of the best kickers in the league. After Dallas cut him from the USFL last season, he converted 53 of his first 57 NFL field goals. Since then, he has broken the record for more than 50 yards on the ground, having had at least one in each of his last eight games.
