Government task force set to dismantle illegal revenue checkpoints in Taraba

The Taraba State Special Task Force Committee on Suspension of Mining and Deforestation Activities has announced plans to dismantle several illegal checkpoints spread across the state.

The decision was taken over the weekend when the President, General Jeremiah Aliyu Faransa, RTD, stormed some of the illegal checkpoints spread along the highways of Lau and Yorro local government councils of the state .

Stressing the need to streamline revenue collection efforts, he explained that legal checkpoints would be consolidated to ensure proper oversight and accountability.

While also checking the number of legitimate and state-approved revenue providers, Faransa stressed that designated collection points would simplify the revenue collection process.

He warned illegal operators to cease their activities or face serious consequences.

“Those involved in this unauthorized revenue collection will regret their actions if they do not stop immediately,” he warned.

He further disclosed that the state government is working on strategies to regulate the growing number of revenue providers, ensuring that their services are transparent and contribute positively to the development of the state.

Unauthorized federal task force committees operating in the state have also been ordered by the President to cease their activities with immediate effect.

Expressing satisfaction over the recent increase in state revenue, he pledged to intensify efforts in areas such as road taxes and other sources of revenue for the benefit of the state.

Reaffirming that the state would take charge of revenue collection through legal means, he commended Governor Agbu Kefas for fostering an enabling environment for these reforms, which he said were essential to the progress of Taraba.
