Police said the alleged motive behind the heinous act was to silence the victim and take revenge for her sexual assault accusation.

A young girl who was allegedly burnt alive by her attacker’s son in Madhya Pradesh’s Khandwa district has tragically died. The incident, which left the girl with 30 percent burns, sparked outrage and grief across the state.

The incident took place on October 12, when police received information that a girl was set ablaze in the Kotwali police station area of Khandwa. After rushing to the spot, the police immediately took the victim to Khandwa district hospital. She was then shifted to MY Hospital in Indore for specialized treatment, where the extent of her burns, covering 30 percent of her body, was ascertained.

This tragic event followed a previous complaint filed by the deceased on October 7, alleging sexual assault against a man named Mangilal. Following her complaint, police arrested Mangilal, who was later released on bail on October 8.

Upon his release, Mangilal and his family allegedly threatened and intimidated the victim and his family. On October 12, an argument broke out between the victim and Mangilal’s son Arjun. The altercation reached a horrific point when Arjun allegedly doused the girl with gasoline and set her on fire, leaving onlookers stunned and horrified.

While hospitalized in Khandwa, the victim made a statement to the police, identifying her attacker as Arjun, the son of her alleged attacker, Mangilal. She accused Arjun of setting her on fire.

According to the police, the alleged motive behind the heinous act was to silence the victim and take revenge for the assault charge leveled against Mangilal.

The victim’s grieving family has demanded a thorough autopsy by a group of doctors and the harshest possible punishment for those responsible for the incident.

Mangilal, who was released on bail, is now under re-examination, while his son Arjun remains in custody.

Law enforcement officials assured the public that they were taking appropriate action and considering additional charges against the accused.

The opposition Congress party condemned the incident and criticized the response of the BJP-led state government. State Congress president Jitu Patwari took to social media to express his condemnation of the incident and criticized the government’s response.

“The assaulted victim, who suffered burn injuries after being doused with petrol during Dussehra on October 12 in Khandwa, died in Indore on Thursday evening. @DrMohanYadav51 ji, this is not normal; This is murder on the part of the government! Your police did not act in time or ensure the safety of the victim, which is why the accused dared to commit this crime. After the complaint, gasoline was poured on the victim and she was set on fire. This is the pinnacle of Raj Jungle! Resign immediately from the post of Minister of the Interior! Patwari wrote about X.
