High school student killed in murder-suicide on his way to prom: cops

A high school student was shot and killed in an apparent murder-suicide by her older DJ boyfriend as they went to his prom in Louisiana, officials said.

Dashayla Ardoin, 17, and Glenkeithan Robertson, 21, were found dead with gunshot wounds in a car heading toward Mamou shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday, the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office said.

“According to the investigation, it appears to be a murder/suicide,” the sheriff’s office said.

Authorities believe Robertson was the shooter, although they don’t yet know a motive for the killings, Sheriff KP Gibson tells PEOPLE.

It appeared they were going to Ardoin’s prom at Mamou High School, Gibson said.

There were no other passengers in the vehicle at the time and no one else was injured, the sheriff’s office said.

In a moving tribute on Facebook, Ardoin high school said it would return to class the next day “without one of ours”.

“Dasayla will always be remembered for her courage and bravery, her kind heart and her beautiful smile. She was so loved and will be greatly missed,” the school wrote.

Robertson’s social media indicates that he worked as a DJ. A photo of him and Ardoin on his Instagram was captioned “Me & You Against The World.”

The matter remains under investigation.
