Israel releases American journalist arrested for ‘unauthorized’ report on damage caused by Iranian attack

ALBAWABA – The Committee to Protect Journalists expressed “deep concern” after the arrest of an American journalist by Israeli authorities for reporting on the Iranian ballistic missile attack.

American journalist Jeremy Loffredo was jailed last Tuesday for covering the aftermath of an Iranian missile strike on October 1, 2024.

The Committee to Protect Journalists urged the Israeli government to release him immediately and allow other journalists to work freely.

Jeremy Loffredo, a freelance journalist at the independent news site The Grayzone, was arrested “on suspicion of serious security violations for publicly posting missile landing sites near or within ‘sensitive security installations in order to attract the enemy’s attention and thus aid him in future attacks,'” according to reports from The Grayzone, The Intercept and Ynet.

According to Grayson editor Max Blumenthal, the American journalist was released from prison after four days but will not be allowed to leave Israel until October 20, The Intercept added.

This comes as, on Monday, October 14, Israeli police and the Shin Bet announced the arrest of two Israelis from Ramat Gan, north of Tel Aviv, accused of collaboration with Iran.
