Bengaluru, Oct 19 (PTI) Police on Saturday arrested Union Minister Pralhad Joshi’s brother on the basis of a cheating complaint filed by the wife of a former JD(S) MLA.

Gopal Joshi and a woman named Vijayalakshmi Joshi were arrested by the Basaveshwaranagar police on Thursday evening. Gopal’s son Ajay Joshi has also been named in the FIR.

She alleged that Gopal Joshi cheated her of Rs two crore on the pretext of securing her family a BJP ticket to contest the May Lok Sabha elections. The complainant also alleged that Vijayalakshmi was introduced to her as Pralhad Joshi’s sister.

However, the union minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Coal and Mines, clarified that he did not have a sister. He said he had only three brothers, one of whom died in a road accident in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra, in 1984.

The minister had earlier clarified that he had disowned his brother (Gopal Joshi) more than three decades ago, and said that he had filed an affidavit in the court and had also issued a public notice saying that any person claiming to be his brother, his relatives or his friends and engaging in any financial affair will not bind him in any way.
