Neeses man pleads guilty to assault and battery

A Neeses man has pleaded guilty to felony and aggravated battery, although he was initially charged with attempted murder.

Akyeem Lamonte Mack, 30, of 108 Belvin Road, Neeses, was sentenced to one year in prison.

Circuit Judge Roger M. Young Jr. gave Mack credit for serving 166 days in jail.

In other recent pleas at the Orangeburg County Courthouse:

• Shamel Nathaniel Phelps, 20, of 115 Lake Road, pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and battery, although he was initially charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Young sentenced Phelps under the Young Offenders Act to a maximum sentence of five years, suspended to three years’ probation. Phelps had already served eight days in prison.

Young stipulated that Phelps was not required to register as a sex offender.

• Jasmin Ny’Chelle Lucas, 30, of 158 Project Road, Bowman, pleaded guilty to first-offense manufacturing/distribution of cocaine base.

Young sentenced Parker to two years in prison, suspended for a one-year probationary period. Parker has already spent a day in jail.

Parker must also complete substance abuse counseling and submit to random drug and alcohol testing.

He faced the following charges, but they were dismissed: open container of beer or wine in a motor vehicle, unlawful carrying of a pistol and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

• Abraham Brian Quattlebaum, 39, of 128 Nimmons Road, Orangeburg, pleaded guilty to first-degree harassment and second-degree domestic violence.

Young sentenced him to three years in prison, suspending Quattlebaum’s sentence with probation for two years.

• Falencia Kiara Rawls, 34, of 97 Sentoowan Road, St. Matthews, pleaded guilty to first-offense possession of one ounce or less of marijuana and unlawful carrying of a pistol.

Young sentenced her to one year in prison, suspended to three months of probation. Rawls has already served two days in prison.

She was charged with possession of a stolen pistol, but that charge was dismissed.

• Angela McNamara Rutledge, 45, of 258 Rodeo Drive, Eutawville, pleaded guilty to third-degree domestic violence.

Young sentenced her to 90 days in jail, suspended for one year of probation. Rutledge has already served three days in jail.

Young ordered Rutledge to complete a domestic violence intervention program.

• Treymaine Spencer Jr., 32, of 122 Hatchery Hill Road, Cordova, pleaded guilty to second-degree domestic violence, although he was initially charged with domestic violence of a serious and aggravated nature.

Young sentenced him to one year in jail, suspended to one year of probation. Spencer has already served three days in jail.

Young ordered her to complete a domestic violence intervention program.

The following charges were dismissed: intentional injury to personal property valued at $2,000 or less and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

• Joquarius Jefethel Steven, 21, of 3544 Deerfield Drive, Columbia, pleaded guilty to resisting arrest and third-degree battery.

Young sentenced him under the Young Offenders Act to a maximum of one year, suspended to three months’ probation.

Stevens was charged with threatening the life of a public official, but the charge was dismissed.

• Cleo D. Strong, 31, of 242 Boswell Street, Orangeburg, pleaded guilty to first-offense possession of a controlled substance.

Strong did not have to serve additional jail time because she had already served 25 days there.

• Alebachew Steven Stubbs, 20, of 1392 Downsberry Drive, Mt. Pleasant, pleaded guilty to second-degree nonviolent burglary, although he was originally charged with first-degree burglary.

Young sentenced him under the Young Offenders Act to a maximum sentence of six years, suspended to five years’ probation.

Stubbs has already served 291 days in prison.

Young ordered him to obtain his GED, submit to random drug and alcohol testing and take prescribed mental health medications.

Stubbs was allowed to transfer his probation from Orangeburg County to Charleston County.
