A woman fighting for her life after being mauled by three dogs was allegedly attacked by one of the animals days earlier, as it appears authorities are pursuing one of the owners.

Jordan Garrett was brutally attacked by animals at a property on Ross Street in Dandenong, in Melbourne’s southeast, shortly before 10am on Thursday.

Police tried to break up the attack using capsicum spray, but the dogs continued to maul Ms Garrett, aged in her 20s, and had to be put down.

They are believed to have been two American bulldogs and a pit bull.

She remains in a critical condition in Dandenong Hospital and police are investigating.

It has now emerged that Ms Garrett had been attacked by one of the animals earlier in the week, according to a neighbor who said the dogs had been a concern for some time.

“I was home sick after work and heard screaming and crashing,” the neighbor told The Age.

“Then the police arrived and the shooting started.”

It comes as shocking CCTV footage was released of an attack allegedly involving one of the animals in July.

The images, published by the newspaper, show a large white and brown dog mauling a much smaller Shiba Inu, who is squealing and howling in pain.

The Shiba Inu’s owner screams and falls to the ground during the attack before a male passerby rushes in and begins kicking and punching the larger dog in an attempt to stop him.

The man yells “let go” and “no stop” repeatedly as he tries to push the dog away.

Greater Dandenong City Council said it had received several complaints about dogs at the property and was prosecuting a resident of the home, who is not the victim, over the July attack.

The case is expected to go to court in November.

After Thursday’s incident, a shirtless man was arrested at the property, but Victoria Police told Daily Mail Australia the arrest was not linked to the dog attack. No further information was available.

A neighbor who lives on the same street said there were five dogs in total in government housing.

It is understood Ms Garrett lives at the home with several other people.

“I was walking home and there was a lot of yelling and screaming,” the neighbor told Daily Mail Australia.

“Then the police came and you heard gunshots. I saw the lady get into the ambulance and she was in very bad condition.

The neighbor said Ms. Garrett appeared unconscious.
