Welder pleads guilty to possessing ISIS-related items on cell phone

KUALA LUMPUR: A welder pleaded guilty in the High Court on Wednesday to possessing Islamic State-related items on his mobile phone and participating in terrorist activities last May.

Muhammad Fesool Haron, 35, entered his plea before Judge K. Muniandy, who set sentencing for November 20.

He was accused of having Islamic State-related items on his phone at a location at Jalan Kempas 5/5, Kempas Industrial Area in Johor Baru on May 30 at 12:10 p.m.

The charge under section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code carries a maximum penalty of seven years in prison or a fine, as well as confiscation of any related material in the event of conviction.

Deputy Prosecutor Yazid Mustaqim Roslan initiated the prosecution, while the accused was represented by lawyer N. Kanmani. – Bernama
