Bakersfield man pleads guilty to burglary of U.S. Post Office

A Bakersfield man pleaded guilty Tuesday to robbing a U.S. Post Office in Caliente and stealing mail, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of California.

According to the agency, Shawn Van Dixon, 39, broke into the post office just before it opened with a hatchet and stole several letters and packages. He then fled the post office in a stolen car.

Van Dixon is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 28 and faces up to five years in prison, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
