Deputy killed by ex-husband, who previously worked at sheriff’s office, authorities say

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (Gray News) – A 39-year-old police officer was killed by her ex-husband, a former sheriff’s office employee, according to Florida authorities.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said Lt. Eloilda “Ellie” Shea was shot and killed by Anthony Shea on Oct. 14.

Deputies responded for what initially appeared to be a suicide, but investigators later determined that Eloilda Shea was killed by Anthony Shea, 49, a former sergeant with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Anthony Shea was arrested Friday and booked into the Orange County Jail without bail on a charge of first-degree murder. He started at the sheriff’s office in 2006, but resigned earlier this year while under investigation for allegations that reportedly resulted in his firing.

Eloilda Shea joined the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in 2011. She was known as “a compassionate police officer, a rising star, and a friend to so many with whom she worked.”

She was the mother of two daughters.

“She lit up every room she entered with her infectious bubbly personality, beautiful spirit and kind smile,” the sheriff’s office said of Eloilda Shea.
