A wanted man who tried to avoid arrest won’t win any hide-and-seek contest with his stash.

Police went to a house in Potton, Bedfordshire, with a warrant for the man, who has not been named – but all they found in the house was a dog.

Until they did a deeper search and found the man hiding in a couch.

The suspect had climbed onto the base of the sofa and was wearing nothing but his underwear.

Body-body footage of the search showed one officer saying: “Oh look, he’s hiding in the sofa, come out” before being arrested.

Bedfordshire Police refused to give further details of the arrest, citing operational reasons.

However, a spokesperson for the force said: “We have seen some things in our time, but we have to say this is a first.

“This morning while executing a warrant in Potton we thought there was nothing left on the property except a friendly dog.

“Upon further searching the property, officers found the suspect hiding in the base of his sofa.

“We thought the man would be more comfortable in bed, so he will spend the next few hours in a custody cell – a little looser.”
