Former X Factor judge Sharon Osbourne has shared her concerns about the music industry following the tragic death of Laim Payne this week.

The 72-year-old actress did not hesitate to say that the music industry had failed One Direction star Liam Payne, who was “just a kid” when he entered “one of the most difficult industries in the world. On Instagram, she shared her concerns by paying tribute to Liam.

The music industry was left rocked by the news after police confirmed Liam’s tragic death on Wednesday. The former One Direction singer was on vacation in Buenos Aires with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy when he fell approximately 13 or 14 meters from the third floor of a hotel. While spokesman for the city’s ambulance service provider, Alberto Crescenti, said he fell about 40 feet and suffered “serious injuries incompatible with life.”

Liam rose to fame after being partnered with Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson on The X Factor in 2010. Sharon, who was a judge on the ITV talent show for seven years, made an appearance in the 2010 show. to assist Louis Walsh during the judging phase of the competition.

The group have very quickly become one of the biggest boybands in the world and, with millions of fans, tributes continue to pour in for the 31-year-old singer-songwriter – with Sharon being one of the latest celebrities to comment.

Sharon said on Instagram: “Liam, my heart hurts. We all failed you. Where was this industry when you needed it? You were just a kid when you entered one of the most difficult industries in the world. Who was in your corner?

One Direction finished third on The X Factor behind Rebecca Ferguson and winner Matt Cardle. The group have released five studio albums and won seven Brit Awards, including for their 2012 debut hit What Makes You Beautiful and the track History from their latest album in 2015.

Liam previously said he struggled with alcoholism at the height of his success, describing hitting “rock bottom” to The Diary Of A CEO podcast host Steven Bartlett. He admitted his alcohol addiction continued during the Covid pandemic, but in 2023 he posted a video on YouTube confirming he was sober for almost six months after almost 100 days in a center American rehabilitation center.

Staff at the Argentinian hotel where Liam died called emergency services twice, with audio revealing a member of staff had asked for help for a guest “drunk on drugs”, according to reports and alcohol.

Buenos Aires police said the music star’s hotel room was “in disarray” with “various broken items”, adding that a bottle of whiskey, a lighter and a cell phone were found there where Payne’s body was found.

Liam’s One Direction bandmates said they were “completely devastated” by the news of his death, adding: “The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever.”

In a statement signed “Louis, Zayn, Niall and Harry”, members of Liam Payne’s One Direction band earlier said: “We are completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing. As time goes by, and when everyone will be able to, there will be more to do But for now, we will take the time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, whom we loved very much.

“The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam.”

In an official statement given to the Associated Press, law enforcement revealed that the 31-year-old singer “jumped from his bedroom balcony,” seemingly dispelling any notion of an accidental fall or foul play. The investigation into Liam’s death intensifies as police search for a drug supplier following the discovery of drugs in his hotel suite.
