Karnataka HC adjourns Darshan’s bail application to October 28

The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing on Darshan’s bail plea to October 28.

The bench headed by Justice S. Vishwajith Shetty heard the matter and passed the order. Senior advocate CV Nagesh appeared for actor Darshan and submitted that he was suffering from severe back pain and was being treated by doctors. He also said that Darshan required medical attention and based on this, bail was sought.

Advocate Nagesh further argued that Darshan needs to undergo surgery and bail should be granted earlier.

The court sought the medical report from the jail officials regarding the health condition of actor Darshan. According to sources, doctors asked Darshan to do an MRI. The actor who had refused any treatment earlier has now agreed to undergo an MRI at the Vijayapura Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS).

“The jail authorities are giving him physiotherapy treatment. But the back pain is not getting better. The authorities are making security arrangements at VIMS to take Darshan for MRI,” his lawyer said.

A Bangalore court last Monday canceled the bail pleas of Kannada superstar Darshan and his partner Pavithra Gowda, who are in jail in connection with the sensational Renukaswamy murder case.

Darshan, Pavithra Gowda and 15 others were arrested on June 11 for kidnapping and brutal murder of Renukaswamy in Chitradurga. Renukaswamy allegedly sent derogatory and obscene messages to Pavithra Gowda.

Darshan was shifted to Ballari jail after photos of his ‘royal treatment’ at Bengaluru Central Jail surfaced. He faces three FIRs in this regard.

Earlier, criminal lawyer CV Nagesh appeared for Darshan in the lower court and termed the police charges as true. Nagesh even called the investigation a classic failure and compared the accusations in the indictment to the story of “Arabian Nights.” Darshan’s lawyer pointed out that there was a deliberate delay in the post-mortem of Renukaswamy’s body and recording of eyewitness statements.

Special public prosecutor Prasanna Kumar, known for handling high-profile cases, had vehemently argued that Darshan’s bail plea should not be entertained. He argued before the court that Darshan, in his statement, had confessed to kicking Renukaswamy’s chest. The lawyer also termed the incident as Darshan’s ‘Rakta Charitra’ and also said that he was aware of the conspiracy to kidnap Renukaswamy from Chitradurga.

Police submitted a 3,991-page charge sheet in the case on September 4.
