Stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui was endowed with police security following reports from local intelligence agencies indicating a potential threat, senior police sources informed The Hindu. Although Faruqui did not file any formal complaints regarding a security risk, police offered proactive protection based on this information. Authorities have stopped short of directly linking the threat to gang activity.
Some reports suggest a possible threat from a gang associated with notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. However, a Mumbai Police official clarified that he could not divulge the details of the threat at this stage. Recent rumors also claim that Faruqui was targeted by gunmen at a wedding in Delhi, leading intelligence agencies to fly him back to Mumbai under tight security.

Faruqui, who has been accused in the past of hurting Hindu sentiments through his comedy, has always denied the allegations. The beefed-up security around him comes amid growing concerns over security in Mumbai, especially after the recent assassination of NCP AP leader Baba Siddique. Siddique was shot dead outside the Bandra office of his MP son Zeeshan Siddique just a few days ago, triggering a police investigation.
