LONDON – Donald Trump’s campaign has accused British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s Labor Party of “blatant foreign interference” in the US presidential election after its volunteers traveled to the United States to help campaign for Kamala Harris .

The campaign has filed a complaint with the Federal Electoral Commission in Washington, calling for an immediate investigation into what it calls “apparently illegal contributions from foreign nationals made by the United Kingdom Labor Party and accepted by Harris for president “.

The complaint cited media reports and a now-deleted LinkedIn post from Sofia Patel, head of operations for the British Labor Party, who wrote that “nearly 100” current and former Labor Party members would travel to the United States in the coming weeks to help elect Harris. , the Democratic vice president.

“Those seeking foreign interference in our elections need look no further than (the) LinkedIn post,” the complaint letter states. “The interference is happening in plain sight.”

The center-left Labor Party, which considers the American Democrats its sister party, came to power in July. Starmer has since sought to build ties with Trump, meeting him at his Trump Tower during a visit to New York in September.

Starmer, traveling on a flight to Samoa, told reporters he did not expect the complaint to strain relations with Trump if he wins the November 5 election, adding that Labor volunteers were present in almost every American election.

“They do it on their own time, they do it as volunteers, they stay, I think, with other volunteers there,” he said.

“That’s what they did in previous elections, that’s what they’re doing in this election and it’s very simple.”
