Tragedy: two teenagers commit suicide in Busia and Nyamira

Two teenagers have committed suicide in separate incidents in Busia and Nyamira counties.

Police said the teens were aged 16 and 14, respectively.

The first incident occurred in Busia, where a 16-year-old boy committed suicide in his parents’ house after being suspended from Busia school.

According to police, the second year student of Bungoma High School was found by his father hanging from a mango tree in front of their house.

The preliminary investigation by the police revealed that he had been suspended from school for two weeks.

Officers from Busia Police Station attended the scene and necessary action was taken. The body was transferred to the referral hospital for autopsy and preservation.

Similarly, a 14-year-old boy was found hanging from a roof truss in his father’s house with a manila rope tied around his neck in an incident in Ikobe village, Nyamira.

The eighth grade student at Ikobe DOK Primary School claimed he was sent home to collect his exam money on Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, the deceased went to school in the morning and returned home claiming that he had been sent money for his exams.

Police say he was directed to a shop to collect two hundred shillings and return to school. However, he collected the money, came home and later committed suicide.

Officers from Nyamira police station attended the scene and necessary measures were taken.

The body was transferred to the Nyamira County Referral Hospital mortuary pending autopsy.

Elsewhere, an 18-year-old man identified as Maxwell Odhiambo was found hanging from the roof of a semi-permanent house with a manila rope around his neck in Siaya.

The police attended the scene and confirmed the incident.

Officers from the Siaya police station went to the scene and the necessary measures were taken.

The body was transferred to the Siaya County Reference Mortuary awaiting autopsy.

The matter is currently under investigation.
