BBC Breakfast fans file complaint over Bill Bailey’s ‘clumsy’ cat | Television and radio | Showbiz and television

BBC Breakfast viewers were quick to complain about an “awkward” conversation with Bill Bailey during Friday’s show.

During the latest episode, the comedian and former Strictly Come Dancing winner, 59, was on the program to talk about his new book My Animals and Other Animals: A Kind of Memoir.

As such, BBC Breakfast showed various photos of Bill with animals and one photo in particular left host Naga Munchetty perplexed. Showing a selfie of Bill with a husky in Iceland, a confused Naga, 49, asked: “Is that your tongue or the dog’s?”

To which Bill, equally baffled, replied: “It’s the dog’s tongue, what do you mean, it’s my tongue? It sticks out sideways! It’s not the type of thing I would do! It’s the dog’s tongue!”

However, Naga was quick to defend his question, explaining: “Look, you can see if someone said it’s your language, that would be believable!” with Bill joking, “That’s not the question I thought I’d be asked today: ‘Is it your tongue or the dog’s?'”

At the end of the interview, Bill was asked about the use of AI and whether it could one day replace actors, to which he responded: “You think so? No way, AI will never be able to replace me! Listen, the AI, the language would come you would know straight away whose language it belongs to! »

To which Naga replied: “You say that as a compliment, the husky had a beautiful tongue!” with Bill responding with: “Alright…” as he laughed in disbelief.

On Twitter, now X, viewers were quick to complain about the “clumsy” interview, particularly when the interview touched on the topic of languages.

One person said: “I had to turn around after that Bill Bailey interview, glad I didn’t feel embarrassed watching this. Terrible stuff. #BBCBreakfast,” another wrote: “#bbcbreakfast Another awkward interview with a celebrity promoting his book.. Why bother?” while another account added: “#BBCBreakfast Charlie and Naga, never fail to take the opportunity to make an interview pointless and awkward.”

BBC Breakfast continues weekdays at 6am on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
