Investigation underway following fatal police-involved shooting in Baltimore

Baltimore, Maryland — The Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Attorney General’s Office is investigating a fatal police-involved shooting that occurred Wednesday evening in Baltimore. The incident occurred on October 9, 2024, around 8:45 p.m.

An initial review of body-worn camera footage shows a Baltimore City police officer encountered a sedan traveling the wrong way on Pennsylvania Avenue before it crashed into a car parked on the block of 1,500 houses. The officer approached the driver and asked him to sit on a nearby curb, which the driver initially did. Shortly after, the man fled on foot, prompting the officer to chase him and call for backup.

The pursuit led to a wooded area near the intersection of Argyle Avenue and Pitcher Street, where the responding officer, joined by two other officers, found the man. Despite being repeatedly ordered to stop and show his hands, the man did not obey and brandished a firearm. The three police officers then discharged their weapons, fatally hitting him.

Emergency medical aid was administered and emergency aid was requested, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. A loaded handgun was found nearby. No police officers were injured during the incident.

In accordance with IID protocol, the names of the deceased and the officers involved are expected to be released within two business days, although this deadline may be extended. Body-worn camera footage of the incident will be released publicly in accordance with Baltimore Police Department and IID policies.

  • East Quogue man charged with first-degree murder in alleged torture killing

Suffolk County, New York — Jeremy Allen, 43, of East Quogue, was charged with first-degree murder and related offenses for the alleged torture and murder of his former friend Christopher Hahn, 43. The indictment was announced Thursday by Suffolk County Prosecutor Raymond A. Tierney.

According to the investigation, the incident occurred on September 27, 2024, after Allen and Hahn, who had known each other since high school, spent the evening at a bar and then went to Allen’s residence on Oakville Avenue. Surveillance footage allegedly showed Allen brutally beating Hahn for 18 minutes shortly after midnight, followed by footage showing Hahn dragged onto the back deck, where he was left in a semi-conscious state.

Allen later allegedly hit Hahn multiple times with a baseball bat before placing a plastic bag over Hahn’s head, watching him struggle to breathe for approximately eight minutes. Surveillance video also allegedly showed Allen stabbing Hahn in the neck 10 times with a knife, ultimately leading to his death after six hours of torture.

The next morning, Allen reportedly contacted a handyman to clean the house. The handyman, after discovering the scene, persuaded Allen to let him go and then alerted the police. Authorities apprehended Allen at his residence.

Allen was arraigned Oct. 10 before Supreme Court Justice Timothy P. Mazzei on charges of first-degree murder, second-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence. He was taken into custody and is due to appear in court on November 14. If convicted of the main charge, he faces a possible life sentence.
