Trump’s strangest rally yet leaves ‘Daily Show’ stunned

“Daily Show” correspondent Desi Lydic was stunned by Donald Trump’s bizarre town hall meeting this week, during which he forwent the event’s question-and-answer format and just played games. music.

Lydic filmed footage of the former president dancing, swaying and miming some of the lyrics, which he did for about 40 minutes at the event in Pennsylvania.

“I literally have no idea what just happened,” she said Tuesday evening. “I don’t know if he’s taking edibles or if I’m taking edibles.”

Lydic pointed out the blatant hypocrisy of how Trump is being covered against Vice President Kamala Harris.

“I like how everyone always criticizes Kamala for not being specific in her policies,” she said. “Meanwhile, Trump is saying, ‘Shh, shh, shh, no questions, no talking, we’re just going to vibe for a while.’

At one point, Trump asked for “Ave Maria.” When he received the instrumental version, he let the song play, then requested it again – this time with Luciano Pavarotti singing.

“Why does Trump know so much about Hail Mary, was it used in a McDonald’s commercial?” » asked Lydic. “Man, he really likes this song. Who’s going to tell him it’s about a virgin?

She also felt some sympathy for “puppy shooter” Kristi Noem, the South Dakota governor who was on stage with Trump while all this was going on.

“It’s the greatest relationship I’ve ever had with her,” she said. “Because we’ve all been in a situation where a guy explains his Spotify playlist to you.”

Noem tried to get the event back on track with more questions. Trump briefly considered the idea, but then decided to play more music.

“It’s probably a good idea to end the questions since I’m pretty sure the next one would have been, ‘uh, hi sir, what’s going on?'” Lydic said.
