Temperatures are expected to reach tens of degrees, but rainy and windy weather is also on the way.

Met Éireann said temperatures would reach the single digits and remain above average in October, but wet and windy weather is also ahead.

The weather has been inherently inconsistent in October, with sunny spells immediately canceled out by rain warnings, and vice versa.

Despite a fairly gloomy start to the week, Met Éireann said this week will be generally unsettled with wet and windy weather, but temperatures will be high for October.

Looking ahead to Tuesday (October 15), the morning will start mostly cloudy with areas of mist and drizzle. Later in the morning, rain will move southward and spread northward across the country in the afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures 14°C to 16°C in mild, humid conditions.

Tuesday night will be cloudy with episodes of rain, heavy for a while in the northeast and east with a risk of isolated thunderstorms. There will also be coastal mist and fog, with minimum temperatures between 11°C and 14°C.

Wednesday morning will be mostly cloudy with scattered rain, which will persist in parts of the north and east throughout the day. This will change to sunny spells and some showers in the south and west, with maximum temperatures of 15°C to 18°C.

Remaining clouds and rain will clear from the northeast early Wednesday evening, and the rest of the night will be dry with sunny spells and patches of mist and fog. However, there will be showers in parts of the west and south, some of which will be heavy. Lowest temperatures 8C to 12C.

For Thursday, conditions will be mild and sunny with scattered showers, some heavy with a risk of thunder. Showers will become isolated in the evening, with maximum temperatures of 13°C to 16°C in light to moderate southerly or westerly breezes.

It will be mostly dry with sunny spells early Thursday evening, but clouds and rain showers will move westward and spread eastward as the night progresses. Lowest temperatures 7C to 12C.

Friday morning and afternoon will be wet and windy as rain spreads across the east of the country, becoming heavy at times. A clearing towards sunny spells and isolated showers later in the west, which will spread to all areas. Maximum temperatures 14°C to 17°C with fresh to strong and gusty southerly winds, easing as the rain clears.

It will be mostly dry with clear skies Friday evening, but there will be a few showers in the west and northwest. Lowest temperatures 8°C to 11°C.

Looking ahead to the rest of the week and the weekend, Met Éireann said the weather would be generally unsettled with wet and windy weather at times. Mild with temperatures remaining above the October average.
