Senator Karungo insists Gachagua impeachment was flawed and lawmakers threatened

Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa has described the impeachment of Vice President Rigathi Gachagua as a flawed process influenced by political considerations.

In an interview with Spice Fm, the Kiambu senator questioned why Gachagua was subjected to impeachment proceedings before exploring other legal and policy options available to address the issues raised against him.

He said the impeachment process in the National Assembly and Senate was marred by bribery and intimidation.

“You could hear someone saying, ‘I have a letter from KRA demanding this and that… I have a company that they would send people to dig. “When the government wants to find something, it will present all the allegations,” the lawmaker said.

Karungo said lawmakers were trying to portray Gachagua in a negative light to justify his impeachment.

“That’s what I call hypocrisy of the highest order. You’re rushing to please some people or protect their businesses or protect their money. Because there’s been a lot of intimidation,” he said. declared.

Karungo openly defended Gachagua, arguing that the accusations against the PD were aimed at undermining its role and influence in the government.

He insists the impeachment motion lacks evidence and is instead an attempt by political adversaries to create division within the administration.

He said Gachagua was a dedicated leader who strongly defended the interests of the Kenyan people and not just those of the Mount Kenya region.

“The allegations used to impeach the vice president are nothing more than a political setup. They are not based on facts but rather on the desire to weaken his position and disrupt the unity of government,” Karungo said.

The senator’s remarks come as the impeached vice president works to block his ouster in court.

President William Ruto on Friday appointed Interior CS Kithure Kindiki as his deputy. Kindiki has obtained parliamentary approval and is the PD candidate awaiting court directives on his fate.
