Norfolk man accused of throwing cement block at another man’s head

NORFOLK, Neb. (KOLN) – A Norfolk man was arrested after allegedly throwing a cement block at a man’s head last Thursday.

According to court documents, the Norfolk Police Department was called to a fight between two men near the NP Mart on East Norfolk Avenue. Police were informed that the two men were fleeing the scene.

When they arrived on scene, the police noticed a large quantity of droplets of blood in the parking lot leading to the front door of the business. An NP Mart employee provided camera footage of the incident to law enforcement.

In the footage, a man and Arlin Mesteth, 51, could be seen entering the parking lot. Mesteth then approached this man, when he could be seen walking away from Mesteth.

Court documents say Mesteth then threw a softball-sized piece of concrete at the man, striking him in the head. He then fell to the ground, where Mesteth kicked him several times. The two men then left the scene.

Officers ended up arresting Mesteth on an unrelated warrant out of Madison County.

The other man was transported to a local hospital.

Mesteth was charged with second-degree assault. His bond was set at 10 percent of $50,000. His next court date is October 22.
