Odisha woman raped and abandoned in Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi, investigation underway – India TV

A 34-year-old woman was allegedly raped and later found in a semi-conscious state in Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan area, police informed on Saturday. According to published reports, a passerby first spotted the woman early Friday morning around 3:30 a.m. in a deplorable state and immediately alerted authorities.

Authorities were informed, police officers arrived at the scene promptly and shifted the woman to the AIIMS trauma center for treatment. They said initial investigations suggest that the sexual assault on the woman took place elsewhere and was later left at Sarai Kale Khan.

About the incident

According to the information received, the victim hails from Odisha and was residing in Delhi for only a year. A senior police official said she was staying with a friend in Katwaria Sarai, but moved out later in August following a dispute. Since then, she has been living on the streets.

Authorities further revealed that the woman, a graduate, was earlier seen in southeast Delhi’s Jamroodpur area where she was accused of trying to break into a house. However, no formal complaint has been filed against her. She had also spent a night at an ATM in Kishangarh, police added.

It is important to note that the authorities, speaking about the incident, also informed that currently the accused is not cooperating with the investigation and is constantly changing her statements. Her family in Odisha has been informed and she remains under medical observation.

Ongoing investigation

Meanwhile, authorities said they are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident. Police mentioned that CCTV footage and other surveillance tools are being analyzed to identify the suspect involved in the crime.
