Tata Power, India’s largest power company, which focuses on providing the best sustainable energy solutions, has been embroiled in a controversy in Odisha, due to its alleged wrong and inflated billing and quality smart meters lower.

Smart electricity meters have attracted a lot of backlash from the people of Odisha, especially from consumers in TPWODL. From block to block, farmers are intensifying their protests with numerous dump trucks and tractors loaded with smart meters.

Accusing the power company of wrong and inflated billing as well as coercive measures for consumers’ inability to pay, protests and outrage were reported from Bargarh, Sambalpur and other districts.

Protesters have repeatedly accused the power company of tampering with smart meters and exploiting consumers by providing them with inflated electricity bills. Many even accused the meter of working without even turning on.

Not only common men but also farmer organizations have also extended their support to the anti-discom protests. Without any major respite, the protests only intensify every day.

TATA Power smart meter issue and warning by Deputy CM

At the same time, the state government has warned that it would have to take strict action against people who removed smart meters without permission. Recently, Odisha Deputy CM KV Singh Deo warned that the government would have no choice but to ask the power company to disconnect electricity to consumers who have illegally removed their meters.

If consumers have doubts or complaints regarding the proper functioning of the meters, they are required to inform the distribution authorization holder, he said.

TPWODL Clarification on TATA Power Smart Meter Issue

On the other hand, TPWODL stated in its clarification that smart meters cannot be tampered with.

CEO Prabin Verma refuted allegations of inflated billing and said, “The counting process cannot be tampered with remotely. Smart meters are valid and if anyone is in doubt they can file a complaint. »
