Senior executive of private company arrested in hit-and-run death of food delivery boy in Pune

A food delivery boy was killed after a high-end car driven by a senior executive of a private company rammed into the two-wheeler he was riding in Pune in the early hours of Friday, police said.

Ayush Tayal (34), who was driving the car, fled after the accident near Tadigutta in the city’s Mundhwa area. He was later arrested after police tracked him down through CCTV footage, he said.

The food delivery boy was identified as Rauf Akbar Shaikh.

“The car driven by Tayal hit Shaikh’s bike. The accused fled the scene but was later arrested after police used CCTV camera footage to identify the car and then tracked it down with its details,” Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Pail said.

Tayal is a senior executive in a MIDC company in Ranjangaon and he was sent for a medical examination to check whether he was intoxicated at the time of the accident, the official said.

A case has been registered against Tayal under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Motor Vehicles Act, he added.
