Complaint: Suspect shot 2 women, car with slingshot in parking lot | Guam News

An altercation allegedly taking place over a parking lot at Compadres Mall in Harmon led to the arrest of a restaurant worker’s boyfriend, accused of ‘shooting’ two other restaurant workers with a slingshot .

The incident on Tuesday was reported by another restaurant employee, who identified the man as Marvin Haruo, “her co-worker’s boyfriend.”

According to the complaint, Haruo “used a slingshot to damage another co-worker’s car and attack the other man’s daughter,” who also worked at the restaurant.

Police questioned the father of the two women who were allegedly attacked.

“He arrived at work that afternoon with his daughters… but he entered the restaurant before them. Haruo was inside the kitchen and started yelling at (the man) to move his vehicle; When (the man) did not comply, Haruo left the restaurant, walked toward (the man’s) vehicle, then returned and stood near the restaurant’s screen door,” it said. the complaint.

That’s when the man’s two daughters got out of the vehicle. According to the complaint, they “were afraid that their father would have an altercation with Haruo.”

Haruo is said to have held a slingshot in his right hand.

“Haruo removed the rubber from the slingshot and fired two objects: a piece of metal rebar at (Victim 1) and a round metal ball at (Victim 2). Both women were struck by the objects,” the complaint states.

One woman was hit in the right hand and was bleeding, while the other woman was hit in the right hip, which had redness and swelling, according to police.

The complaint alleges that after hitting the women, Haruo got into his car and pulled up behind the man’s car and “fired another shot into the rear window” of the vehicle, shattering the window.

When police questioned Haruo about the incident the next day, he allegedly told police that he “saw a car double parked, so he asked the female passengers to park it properly.” Neither could drive, so they directed him to their father, who told Haruo it wasn’t his problem and refused to move the car. An argument broke out, at which point Haruo claimed to see (the man) carrying a knife and another man wielding a machete,” the complaint states.

According to the complaint, Haruo said that’s when he took the slingshot out of his “fanny pack.”

Haruo “then fired towards where the men were in order to discourage them from pursuing him. Haruo stated that as he was walking away, he attempted to hit (the man), but his grip slipped and he hit (the man’s) vehicle instead,” the complaint states.

Haruo was charged Thursday with two counts of aggravated assault and criminal mischief as third-degree felonies. He was also charged with two counts of misdemeanor assault for the bodily injuries caused to the two women.

A criminal history report indicated Haruo was previously convicted in a 2021 case related to criminal mischief and assault.

In the new case, Guam Superior Court Judge Jonathan Quan ordered Haruo held on $5,000 cash bail.
