North East councils ‘sinking into crisis’ over schools

North East councils ‘sinking into crisis’ over schools

Elaine Younger’s son attends one of three colleges slated to close.

The plan regarding his education and that of his younger siblings is unclear.

“I’m angry,” she said. “I am upset that my children are suffering through this process.

“There is no action plan for any of the schools that I am aware of.

“Actually it’s probably less than what the consultation said because they were promising a new secondary school and no plans have been put forward for that.”

She said one of her “biggest fears” was that her children would be “left behind those in the rest of the country.”

The council says a £50 million investment in the Berwick Schools Partnership is set to transform education in the area for generations to come and architects have created a series of models for the first schools.

He adds: “Recruitment of contractors is also underway and applications for building permits have started to be submitted.

“A business case for the proposed development of the Berwick Academy buildings will be submitted to cabinet for approval in the near future.”
