Ruto’s former deputy accuses him of intimidation

Former Kenyan Vice President Rigathi Gachagua has accused President William Ruto of orchestrating his impeachment and putting his life in danger. Speaking publicly after being released from Karen Hospital, where he was treated for a “life-threatening health condition”, Gachagua recounted allegations of persecution by Ruto over the year elapsed. He claimed his guarantee was revoked despite a court order temporarily suspending his replacement, and accused the president of trying to poison him twice. Gachagua described his October 17 impeachment as the culmination of a politically motivated campaign to oust him. He further alleged that Ruto used him to gain electoral support from the Mount Kenya region but never intended to work with him. Gachagua said he feared for his safety, urging Kenyans to hold Ruto accountable if anything happened to him or his family. The president has yet to respond to the allegations.
