First Calvary Baptist Church Celebrates 94th Women’s Day

SALISBURY — Sunday, Oct. 27, will be the 94th annual Women’s Day celebration at First Cavalry Baptist Church’s 11 a.m. service. This year’s theme is “Women Walk in Victory” and Judges 4:9.

First Calvary Baptist Church, located at 400 S. Long St., Salisbury, will host Dr. Latonya McIver Penny as a guest speaker for Women’s Day. LaTonya N. McIver Penny is a native of Leasburg. She is the senior pastor of Belonging Fellowship Church in Mebane.

She graduated from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University with a bachelor’s degree in communications. She continued her education by earning a master’s degree in teaching from East Carolina University, a master’s degree in divinity from Wake Forest University, and a doctorate in ministry from Campbell University.

Penny is part of the Divine Nine, an association of historically black sororities and fraternities, as a member of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority. She is involved in numerous organizations working to support children with disabilities and the fair treatment of children. She is married to Minister Charles W. Penny II and together they are the proud parents of twins.
