In the years since Liam Payne’s X Factor fame, his personal life has become complicated at times and he has spoken openly about his struggles with alcoholism and mental health. He was also diagnosed with ADHD as an adult.

In a candid TV interview with former SAS soldier Ant Middleton in 2019, he spoke about his battle with suicidal thoughts: “In some circumstances I’m very lucky to still be here.

“There are times when that level of loneliness and people crowding you every day, it’s like, ‘When is this going to end?’ It almost killed me on several occasions,” he said.

In July 2023, he also said on social media that there were “a lot of manic things going on in my life” and that he had sought help from specialists.

He described hitting “rock bottom” after appearing drunk on Logan Paul’s podcast in June 2022 – creating a backlash over his controversial comments about his One Direction bandmates, for which he criticized is then excused.

In July 2023, Payne also spoke out on YouTube – thanking his ex-partner Cheryl Cole, also mother to their child Bear, for supporting his decision to seek treatment. He described how his former bandmates had “stayed by my side” and “came to my rescue”.

This relationship with Cheryl began in 2016, but they separated in 2018.

Liam has been romantically involved with a number of women over the years, including models Naomi Campbell in 2019 and then Maya Henry – who he became engaged to in 2019. The couple had an on-and-off three-year relationship which ended in 2022.

Since October 2022, he has been linked to influencer Kate Cassidy and they photographed together as recently as June in London.

On Instagram, he posted about his relationship: “I’ve never felt love like the one I feel for Katelyn. We make each other better,” adding “for the first time in my life, I’m happy to ‘be me and that is priceless.’ .

But in a sign of his complex personal life, his ex-fiancée Maya Henry initiated legal proceedings on Monday – ordering lawyers to issue a cease and desist letter to Liam.

She posted a video on TikTok claiming that the One Direction star repeatedly sent her spam messages.

And last week the Sun reported that Liam had parted ways with his management company and abandoned plans for a second solo album.
