Accused were paid in advance to kill Baba Siddique: Mumbai Police

NEW DELHI: Senior officers of the Mumbai Crime Branch currently questioning the two suspects arrested in the PCN leader’s murder case Baba Siddique.

The suspects, identified as Gurmel Singh and Dharamraj Kashyap, both aged in their 20s, hail from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh respectively.
They were allegedly paid in advance for their involvement in the crime and received a delivery of firearms a few days before. Mumbai Police said the suspects were questioned over the past eight hours.
Authorities are investigating the murder of the former Maharashtra minister from several angles, including the possibility of a contract killing, a business rivalry or threats linked to a slum rehabilitation project.
Baba Siddique was shot dead by three assailants in Mumbai on Saturday evening. His body was shifted from Lilavati Hospital to Cooper Hospital for post-mortem around 6 am on Sunday.
Siddique was ambushed by three men in Kher Nagar, near the office of his son MP Zeeshan Siddique.
He was taken to the hospital emergency room at 9:30 p.m. in critical condition, with no pulse, no heart activity or blood pressure, as well as gunshot wounds to the chest.
Despite immediate resuscitation efforts at the intensive care unit, Siddique lost a significant amount of blood and was pronounced dead at 11:27 p.m. Saturday, according to medical officials.
