Proposed measures to prevent unauthorized engine parts | GE Aerospace

According to GE Aerospace, the coalition’s recommendations “are performance-based and technology-agnostic, giving companies in the aerospace industry flexibility to achieve outcomes.” The proposals include strengthening supplier accreditation, digitizing documentation and improving parts traceability, which will be implemented over different timetables.

The Coalition shared the report with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, as well as law enforcement officials.

GE Aerospace said it has begun implementing the recommendation, noting in particular that it has digitized records dating back to 2015 and is now scanning key documents when an engine visits a GE Aerospace workshop. It plans to test digital signatures in the coming months.

“These recommendations will close gaps and add new layers of security to strengthen the integrity of the supply chain. We know what must happen; it’s time to get to work,” according to Coalition Co-Chair Robert L. Sumwalt, former chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board.
