Second suspect pleads guilty in Galleria shooting that killed 8-year-old

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – A second man has pleaded guilty in a 2020 filming at Galleria Mall who killed an 8 year old boy.

King Gary Williams pleaded guilty to reckless murder in the killing of Royta Giles, who was struck by a bullet as he stood with his family outside a store at the mall.

Williams pleaded guilty to reckless murder in Royta’s killing and three counts of second-degree assault for injuring three other people. He was initially charged with capital murder before pleading guilty to the lesser charges.

Investigators said the shooting stemmed from an argument between Williams and other men, including Montez Coleman, who pleaded guilty to the same accusations as Williams earlier this year.

A judge sentenced Williams to 25 years in prison for reckless murder and 10 years, with two to serve for each of the assault convictions.
