Koichi Yamadera, Toshihiko Seki, Ryūsei Nakao and More Voice Actors Discuss the Effort for ‘No More Unsanctioned Generative AI’ – Interest

Voice actors raise interesting points about the ethical use of generative AI

To prevent unauthorized use of voice in generative AI, a number of Japanese actors announced on October 15 that they had founded the group No More Mudan Saisei AI (No More Unauthorized Generative AI). After a short preview video featuring Ryūsei Nakaothe group launched a series of videos on October 21 in which voice actors express their thoughts on the use of generative AI.

The nearly six-minute video features voice actor Koichi Yamadera, Chika Sakamoto, Mika Kanaï, Toshihiko Seki, KujiraAnd Ryūsei Nakao discussing their thoughts on AI generative voice replication. Each voice actor expressed concerns about the technology with Seki and Kujira noting issues related to the lack of legal copyright protection of their respective voices and the fact that their voices are their “product”.

However, Yamadera and Nakao make interesting arguments for the ethical use of technology. Yamadera said he saw the technology as something people and fans could have fun with in private. But he also noted that problems arise when people try to commercialize the works they have generated or publish them widely online, for example on social media.

Nakao, for his part, cited how a voice actor one of his friends lost his voice and his last lines were generated with AI. Although Nakao found this incredible, he also imparted to viewers the wisdom of Anpanman Creator Takashi Yanase (roughly translated), “Show the kids the real thing.” »

It seems that the six voice actors featured in the latest No More Mudan Saisei AI video have mixed feelings about using AI generative voice technology. While they recognize the fun potential of generative AI, they also understand that its commercial use potentially reduces the value of their profession. Unfortunately, at the time of writing, little has been done to protect voice actors and their craft.
